Cascade Effect is an exciting, brand new FTC game!
This year’s FIRST Tech Challenge event is called Cascade Effect. It has many fun and intriguing new features. The game’s centerpiece holds 160 plastic whiffle balls. 120 of them are small balls and the other 40 are large balls. To start the match there is a 30 second autonomous period. During the autonomous period teams will have to come off a ramp and release the rod that is keeping the balls inside the centerpiece. This will be a challenge because the centerpiece will be in a different position each time you start a match. This became the game’s centerpiece is on a turn table. This allows the centerpiece to have a smooth gliding spin. The final 2 minutes of each match will be Tele-Op(Driver Controlled). The goal is to pick up the balls and place them in tubes of differing sizes. One is 30cm, one is 60cm, and one is 90cm. Points are scored by how full the tubes actually are. This is measured in centimeters. The final 30 seconds of the game is called the endgame. The goal of the endgame is to get all the tubes in the parking zone and the tubes up the ramp along with your robot. There is also a fourth tube attached to the centerpiece. This may only be used during the endgame but it is worth many points. This years challenge, Cascade Effect, is definitely a challenging one but I believe it will create some great thoughts from every team apart of FIRST Tech Challenge.
